Twitter in a play to receive more search engine traffic has released a new profile directory of all users. Samuel Junghenn founder of Digital Marketing Agency Think Big Online says this is a positive step forward for Twitter.

“For Twitter to stay relevant they need to attract new users and engaging in Search Engine Optimisation is certainly going to help them with that. The user profiles are a smart strategy as they are just repurposing assets they already have to improve their search engine rankings.” Said Mr Junghenn.

While this may not seem like new news as the Twitter profile directory has been live for a few weeks, it’s only now just being picked up by news media. Twitter secretly released this update in a bid to drive more traffic and did not issue a press release about it.

When Twitter was questioned about the launch a twitter spokesperson said it’s “to help people find the accounts they’re looking for with various search engines”.

“It’s obvious that Twitter see Search Engine Optimisation as a major part of their growth strategy moving forward. I predict that this is just the first in a variety of new initiatives that Twitter will bring out over coming months.” Said Mr Junghenn
