Give your skin what it craves most: a good moisturizer! BeautyStat.com -- the leading online beauty community for skincare reviews and makeup reviews -- has been featured in the October issue of Health Magazine. BeautyStat’s very own cosmetic chemist and founder, Ron Robinson, was part of the magazine’s editorial “Your Great Skin Master Class” regarding the importance of moisturizers; which are the best moisturizers on the market today for certain skin types and how to properly use them. Ron was able to contribute his scientific approach to the piece, explaining that all moisturizers come in three basic types: occlusives, emollients and humectants -- regardless of all the different formulations moisturizers can come in like creams, lotions and gels.

Ron mentions that occlusives are “likely the first kind of moisturizer you ever used (think diaper balm), these create a barrier so moisture can’t escape. (It’s like shrunk-wrapping a muffin so it stays moist.)” Ron continues his explanation by mentioning some of the ingredients one would find on the label of an occlusive moisturizer including petrolatum, dimethicone, lanolin and mineral oil. In the article, Ron explains further what makes a moisturizer an emollient or humectant, and the different ingredients found on the labels. Learn more about these types of moisturizers and what you are putting on your skin with Health Magazine’s latest article in their October issue.
