“We all understand that we cannot be successful in preventing crime without the help of those most impacted by crime – the communities we serve.”

Today the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) joins the Celebrate Safe Communities (CSC) initiative to bring crime prevention to communities nationwide. As a partner in the Celebrate Safe Communities’ cybersafety week, the FBI is hosting local events with law enforcement and the public. In addition, the FBI is providing more than 40,000 print and online resources to the Celebrate Safe Communities sites across the nation.

“Celebrate Safe Communities is crime prevention done the right way. It is local people working with local law enforcement to address local issues,” said Ann M. Harkins, president and CEO of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC). “Together with the FBI, we will enhance public awareness of vital crime prevention and safety messages, and sustain year-round support for prevention activities.”

Since 2008, law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, have promoted crime prevention in local communities across the country. The addition of a venerable CSC partner like the FBI ensures an even wider reach to local law enforcement personnel.

“We are proud to stand with the NCPC in support of the Celebrate Safe Communities initiative. Given today’s wide-ranging criminal threats, we must continue to work together – federal agencies, state and local law enforcement, and concerned citizens alike – to keep our neighborhoods safe and strong,” said Michael P. Kortan, FBI Assistant Director for Public Affairs. “We all understand that we cannot be successful in preventing crime without the help of those most impacted by crime – the communities we serve.”

Celebrate Safe Communities is an initiative of the National Crime Prevention Council, home of McGruff the Crime Dog, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice.
