Rockwell's 2012 line of oscillating multi-tools includes four models to fit nearly anyone's budget. The new Universal Fit™ system allows these versatile tools to use other brands' accessories without adapters.

Universal Fit™ is an industry first.

Rockwell®, a pioneer of affordable oscillating multi-tools, has introduced a new line of 2012 Sonicrafter® and ShopSeries Sonictool™ models that match the budgets and project requirements of virtually any do-it-yourselfer, hobbyist or professional. These innovative oscillating tools incorporate the industry’s first Universal Fit™ system that enables them to accept every other brands’ accessories without adapters.

Rockwell also has developed, Hyperlock™, a tool-free (quick-release) feature that enables two Sonicrafter models (RK5139K and RK5140K) to deliver one ton of clamping force to keep blades and other accessories firmly in place during critical cuts. This is the highest accessory clamping force on any tool-free oscillating tool. So no more stopped cuts due to blade slips in the tool. Hyperlock’s tool-free design takes seconds – simply release and rotate a top-mounted lever, switch accessories and tighten by turning the lever in a clockwise direction; then press the lever back down.

Rockwell’s lineup of new oscillating tools, featuring the Universal Fit™ System, include the Sonicrafter X2 (RK5140K, $149), Sonicrafter (RK5139K, $119), Sonicrafter 12V Cordless (RK2522K2, $139) and ShopSeries Sonictool (SS5120, $49).

Using the right accessories, these Rockwell oscillating tools quickly and easily make intricate end cuts or plunge cuts in wood and other materials. They also can cut sheet metal or fiberglass, and saw off copper pipe, PVC or other tubing flush to a flat surface. Switch to other accessories, and they detail sand in corners and other tight spaces, scrape loose paint, take rust to bare metal for priming or remove hardened adhesives.

Most other oscillating multi-tool brands only accept their own proprietary accessories. So users are stuck with an expensive proprietary system or need to drive across town to buy the one and only brand of blades that fit their tools. Some competitors offer adapters to help make their tools compatible, but these are easy to lose and aren’t always truly universal. That’s until now; because Rockwell’s new Universal Fit system accepts all other branded accessories.

In addition, Sonicrafter’s Universal Fit accessories are designed to fit all competitors’ oscillating tools. If you buy a Rockwell Sonicrafter blade, it will be able to fit on any multi-tool. Rockwell Universal Fit accessories are also backwards compatible with prior-model Rockwell multi-tools by use of an adapter. However, no need to worry, because every accessory that is purchased will come with this adapter.

Rockwell also has ramped up the amps in its new corded oscillating multi-tools, increasing their power and cutting efficiency. The Sonicrafter X2 (RK5140K) leads the way with an increase from 2.3 to 3.0 amps. The Sonicrafter (RK5139K) jumps from 2.3 to 2.5 amps, and the ShopSeries Sonictool increases from 2.0 to 2.3 amps.

The new Rockwell Sonicrafter X2 (RK5140K, $149), Sonicrafter (RK5139K,$119), Sonicrafter 12V Cordless (RK2522K2, $139) and ShopSeries Sonictool (SS5120, $49) are available at and other websites, including Menards and Lowe’s, as well as regional hardware and home centers nationwide.
