Leading Experts in Innovative Ways of Measuring Teacher Performance Slated to Present

Pearson’s K-12 Research & Innovation Network today announced a new webinar, “Educator Effectiveness: Models and Considerations,” to provide education leaders from around the country with new insights into establishing policies and processes for measuring teacher effectiveness.

In today’s climate of an increased focused on accountability, teachers’ unions, teachers and administrators are trying to find common ground on what should be evaluated and how; what role student data should play; and the impact on high-stakes employment decisions. In this hour-long webinar, three different models for evaluating educator effectiveness will be introduced and discussed by leading experts.

What: Webinar: Educator Effectiveness: Models and Consideration 

When: Oct. 30, 4-5 pm EDT

Who: Facilitated by Kelly Burling, Ph.D., director of Pearson’s K-12 Research & Innovation Network’s Center for Educator Effectiveness, webinar presenters will include:

-Robert C. Pianta, Ph.D., Dean of the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia. Pianta’s research and policy interests focus on teacher-student interactions and relationships, and on the improvement of teachers’ contributions to students’ learning and development.

-Edward Van Wesep, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Finance, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Van Wesep studies contract design, in theory and practice, focusing on pay practices for rank-and-file workers. He is currently evaluating the efficacy of a novel method for measuring teacher performance.

-Heather Hill, Professor, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Co-Director, the National Center for Teacher Effectiveness. Hill’s primary work focuses on developing measures of mathematical knowledge for teaching n the mathematical quality of instruction and using these measures to evaluate public policies and programs.
