The Oklahoma auto accident attorneys at the law firm of Atkins & Markoff, whose Web site URL can be found at, hereby alert the public that the Department of Public Safety, which is the law enforcement agency in Oklahoma that tracks statistics regarding traffic crashes in the state, has announced that the number of fatalities in August of 2012 due to crashes has dropped when compared to the number of fatalities during the same month in 2011.

The Oklahoma car crash lawyers at Atkins & Markoff, a law firm that represents clients who have been injured by negligent and reckless drivers in car, truck, bicycle and pedestrian accidents throughout the state, hereby announce that the Department of Public Safety in Oklahoma has announced that the number of fatalities resulting from Oklahoma car accidents during August has dropped when compared to the same timeframe from 2011. The announcement was made on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

Specifically, the Department of Public Safety released several statistics regarding Oklahoma car accident fatalities, including the fact that 56 people were killed in crashes in the state during the month of August, 2012. That’s a drop from 72 during August of 2011, and the total fatalities to date during 2012 stands at 521, which represents a drop from 598 between January and August of 2011.

Of the 56 fatalities that occurred during August of 2012, eight people were motorcyclists and five people were pedestrians. Two-thirds of the people who were killed in crashes were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and one of the fatalities that took place was recorded with alcohol being a factor in the opinion of the reporting law enforcement officer.

A total of 50 of the people who died in Oklahoma car accidents in August of 2012 were residents of Oklahoma, and six were residents of other states. 44 of the people who were killed in these crashes were male and 12 of them were female. 20 people between the ages of 21 and 30 were also killed and this represented the largest number of fatalities for any age group during the month.
