Intelex is thrilled to be a part of Tree Top Inc.’s continuing mission to ensure the highest level of food safety across all of its products and facilities. The agricultural cooperative based out of the Northwestern United States will be leveraging Intelex’s food safety solutions to ensure the ongoing quality of its nationally distributed fruit-based ingredients and packaged goods and to achieve complete, sustained Safe Quality Food (SQF) compliance.
With eight diverse facilities across Oregon, Washington and California, Tree Top’s goal is to improve its food safety system by implementing an automated system that is constantly efficient and cohesive across all eight facilities. By executing Intelex’s food safety management solutions, Tree Top will be able to consolidate its food safety data within one secure, centralized, web-based portal accessible in real-time across all of its locations.
“To maintain compliance, we were operating with a variety of different software and paper-based systems, and are looking to find consistency between each of these eight facilities, which produce a vast array of food products and require different documents to meet food safety requirements,” explains Lerina Garza, SQF Coordinator at Tree Top. “We chose Intelex because, in addition to it being an easy-to-use system that we believe can meet most of our requirements, staff was a pleasure to deal with and very sensitive to our particular needs and goals.”
Tree Top is looking for the Intelex system to organize, streamline, maintain, and improve efficiency of compliance with all SQF requirements – not to mention state and federal regulatory requirements – thereby ensuring ongoing audit preparedness and the highest level of food quality. SQF is a globally recognized, voluntary food and beverage standard to deliver consistent, globally recognized food safety and quality certification programs based on sound scientific principles, consistently applied across all industry sectors, and valued by all stakeholders. It is designed to minimize food recalls and improve food safety by ensuring ‘farm-to-fork’ accountability. The standard builds on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), a centerpiece of FSMA regulations, which will be revealed as rulemakings are finalized in the coming months and years. By streamlining food safety management and achieving company-wide SQF certification, Tree Top will be better positioned to comply with FSMA requirements as they become law.
“At Intelex, we’re committed to ensuring the highest degree of both public health and uncompromised food safety and, as such, we’re proud to work with a company that takes food safety as seriously as Tree Top,” says Intelex President and CEO Mark Jaine.
“The data collection needs at Tree Top have at least tripled in the last two years. At the same time our customers’ requirements have ballooned similarly under the influence of GFSI and FSMA,” adds Bonna Cannon, Director, Quality and Food Safety at Tree Top. “Once collected, this information must be in a readily analyzed and adaptable format as the scientific knowledge base evolves, so Tree Top can continue to keep pace with best methods. The Intelex platform will give us the ability to align these needs across each value stream and readily adapt to emerging needs. Intelex will allow us to focus more of our efforts on Food Safety and Quality rather than gathering and finding information.”
