Vision-Box® S.A., leader in automated border control systems and electronic identity solutions, has emerged in Frontex’s report “Best Practice Operational Guidelines for Automated Border Control (ABC) Systems” as the company with the largest number of ABC system deployments in the EU/Schengen area.

In 2006 Vision-Box® was the first company in Europe to achieve the deployment of ABC eGates, at an airport, based on face matching verification against an ePassport. Since then it has been at the forefront of introducing innovative, unequalled products based on the same modular design as de facto industry standard for ABC eGates; vb i-match®. Today’s solutions include versions of standard ABC, bi-directional and self-boarding eGates; all compliant with ePassports, eIDs, RTPs and eVIS.

Of the 8 ABC systems currently in operation in the EU/Schengen area 5 are based on Vision-Box® technology. These include Portugal, UK, The Netherlands, Finland and Norway. According to Miguel Leitmann, Senior Vice President of Vision-Box® S.A., “this achievement represents an important milestone for us but also significant benefits to all users in terms of inter-operability from country to country.”

The main benefits delivered by vb i-match® include.

  • Multimodal biometric checks
  • ICAO compliant capture and verification
  • Thin footprint
  • Proactive tailgating and liveness detection
  • Modular architecture
  • High accuracy, reliability and speed
  • Audited “off-the-shelf” product already in use by several European Immigration Authorities
  • Optimized to provide a pleasant passenger experience
  • Clear instructions and feedback
  • More organic process

All of Vision Box’s solutions, including kiosks, gates, boarding gates and cards dispensers operate on top of an open platform for transaction management, vb i-shield®, allowing for a centralized management of the traveler’s flow, and providing critical business and security information of the devices. Miguel Leitmann highlights that this holistic approach represents significant advantages in terms of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), better integration and more control to the different stakeholders, including airlines, airports and border control agencies.

Vision-Box® will showcase its ground breaking solutions for border control and ID management at the 1st. Global Conference and Exhibition on future developments of Automated Border Control (ABC), Warsaw, Poland, from the 25th to 26th of October, 2012.
