Nurse practitioners have many, varied employment opportunities with higher salaries than registered nurses, and we expect these opportunities to grow over time, along with the evolving needs of an aging population.
Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) October 23, 2012
Herzing University Online announced today that it has recently earned accreditation for its Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) through the year 2017.
“The Family Nurse Practitioner program enables licensed registered nurses to advance their knowledge and clinical skills in order to develop a more independent nursing practice, particularly in under-served rural and urban areas where healthcare professionals are in short supply,” said Janet K. Noles, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FAANP, chair of graduate nursing at Herzing University Online. “Nurse practitioners have many, varied employment opportunities with higher salaries than registered nurses, and we expect these opportunities to grow over time, along with the evolving needs of an aging population.”
Nurse practitioners diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness – independently or as part of a healthcare team – and may prescribe medication as well as order, perform or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays. An MSN – Family Nurse Practitioner degree will enable graduates to work in cardiology, obstetrics, internal medicine, pediatrics, urgent care, gynecology and family medicine fields, among others.
“We are very excited to receive the accreditation for our Family Nurse Practitioner program, which is particularly attractive to busy nursing professionals who prefer the convenience of online, flexible learning in order to balance their advanced education with their career and family priorities,” said Catherine Datte, Vice President of Online Learning for Herzing University Online.
The accreditation is effective retroactively as of September 28, 2011, which means that students currently enrolled in the programs will obtain degrees from the accredited program when they graduate. The MSN-FNP program, as well as all other Master’s and Bachelor’s degree programs in Nursing at Herzing University Online, are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791.
Herzing University Online offers three options to students seeking a Master’s Degree in Nursing to choose among concentrations in Nursing Education, Nursing Management or Family Nurse Practitioner to fit their career goals in executive level nursing or teaching positions. Herzing University Online also offers an RN to BSN Bridge program for registered nurses who would like to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Applications are now being accepted for the MSN – Family Nurse Practitioner program. The 20-month program requires a minimum of 48 semester credit hours. It is currently available for students located in 27 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin.
