Rekortan has joined together with the World Runners team in a fundraising effort for the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. The team, which will compete in the Pittsburgh Marathon of May 2013, accepts direct donations, but runners may also participate with them to help raise even more money. After the event, the funds raised will support programs of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh at underprivileged schools in the region. These programs, aimed at middle and high schools, include the Student Ambassador Program, International Student Summits, and the Global Travel Scholarship Program.

The World Affairs Council is a non-profit organization that has been promoting international issues throughout Western Pennsylvania since 1931. The Council communicates with leaders and decision makers about international affairs and how those events impact the local region. The program also works with secondary schools to give both teachers and students a widened perspective into global issues.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, partnered with the Run for a Reason Charity Program, is a non-profit organization that promotes community involvement and fitness activities through long-distance running events. The Pittsburgh Marathon will host a number of events to let more people enter the race. Events include the Kid’s Run, 5K, Relay, Half Marathon, and Marathon. All events are designed to suit and appeal to a variety of skill and age levels. The funding raised throughout the marathon will be donated to a number of charities to reinvest in the economic and social well-being of Pittsburgh. Sponsorships of individual teams and the event itself as well as volunteer engagement make this event possible. The Run for a Reason Charity Program assists national and regional charities in their fundraising and recruiting efforts through a weekend of running events.
