Sean Sullivan San Francisco real estate agent says that the Richard Meier condo tower could rise on Van Ness and Market. Slated for 37 stories and 258 condominium units the tower would incorporate an innovative wind screen structural feature on the Oak Street facade. Architect Richard Meier, famously known for the Getty Center in Los Angeles, submitted a more fully fleshed out design proposal, bringing the development one step closer to reality.
The Flatiron shaped lot at Oak, Van Ness and Market Streets could see the most innovative San Francisco high rise since the Pyramid. Slated for 37 stories and 258 condominium units the tower would incorporate an innovative wind screen structural feature on the Oak Street facade. The units will range in size from 500 to 2,500 square feet.
The working name for the tower is “One Van Ness” and it must still wend its way through the usual city bureaucracy and appeals. Real Estate professionals like myself get excited at the prospect of a “starchitect” designed residential building we can sell. Lets hope this 21st century tower makes it to construction without too many tweaks or bay windows.
Another local Meier project is the San Jose City Hall completed in 2005. Meier, 77, was one of the first recipients of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize which honors a living architect whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision and commitment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity.
