Connecting young adults to unfilled jobs is critical to solving America's jobs crisis. How can we make it happen?

The Opportunity Divide in the Bay Area

There are 23,000 Opportunity Youth in the Greater Silicon Valley Area. At the same time, Facebook CIO Tim Campos says, "We have a problem finding people and we need more talent."

We would like to invite you to a small roundtable discussion between key media and community leaders in the Bay Area about a growing solution to the job crisis in America: Year Up.

The U.S. economy is producing 120,000 STEM jobs each year, yet U.S. colleges are only producing 1/3 of the needed degree students in the STEM fields. At the same time, there are 6.7 million young adults who are neither employed nor in college with only a high school diploma or GED.

How do we connect all these talented young adults to all these unfilled tech jobs?

With 10 sites nationwide, Year Up is a proven successful program that trains these urban young adults for tech careers. And, in March 2013, Year Up Bay Area, now in its fourth year with 200 graduates, will open another campus in the heart of the tech world, Silicon Valley.

We hope you can join us and a select group of key media for a conversation about how Year Up's presence in Silicon Valley will shape the future of the Skills Divide in the South Bay and how TippingPoint and JP Morgan Chase’s combined half-million dollar investment will help further solve America’s jobs crisis.
