Steven MacNamara headlined the session on “Portfolio Construction 2012 and Beyond” with panelists Michael Weinberg, Chief Investment Officer of Weinberg Investments, Anders Ekernas Chairman and CIO of Hillswick Asset Management and Miguel Triay.
“We opened with a discussion of historical approaches to portfolio construction based on pre-2008 60-40 equities models and discussed the evolution of the portfolio construction models in the market” said MacNamara. “Quickly the panel evolved into a discussion of global macro concerns including QEinfinty and the Euro. Panel members offered differing opinions on the Euro’s sustainability in its current form or any form,” said MacNamara.
“Panelists discussed the importance of the US as a safe harbor for investments as China slows and Europe continues to dealwith it’s internal problems.” MacNamara said. “Finally, we discussed different allocation models spanning liquid and illiquid approaches as well as classic or barbell approaches towards investing” he added.
Other Forum sessions covered a variety of topics, including those designed to help attendees successfully prepare for potential changes that might occur as a result of new SEC initiatives; other regulation, changes to tax codes, political impact of the upcoming election, real estate industry turnaround and other family office centric topics including outsourcing.

Steven MacNamara has over 25 years of experience in the investment management industry. He spent the first part of his investment career as a research analyst with leading financial services firms headquartered on the West Coast. For several years he analyzed and published differentiated investment research on a multitude of industries with a primary emphasis on electric utilities, telecom services, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). Over this period he developed several highly novel security valuation methodologies that utilize relative dividend yield and other forms of discounted free cash flow analysis.
