Mattress retailer Sleep Experts announces its first Share the Warmth Blanket Drive in Austin and asks families to drop off new or gently used blankets at any of its seven Austin mattress store locations, now through Thanksgiving. Items collected during the drive will be distributed to local nonprofits that share a mission of helping families and children in need. Austin area beneficiaries are Austin Children’s Shelter, Center for Child Protection, Foundation Communities, SafePlace and Saint Louise House.

The Girl Scouts of Central Texas will participate in Share the Warmth for the drive’s inaugural year by collecting blankets in their communities throughout the Austin area and dropping them at Sleep Experts’ stores. The blankets will then be distributed to the five non-profit groups, to help their families keep warm this winter season.

Kelly White, Chief Executive Officer of Austin Children’s Shelter commented, “Most of us take the comfort of a warm blanket for granted but if you are a child that has experienced abuse and neglect, curling up in your own bed with the security of a blanket all your own, is a soothing, supportive and healing experience.”

In addition to blankets, Sleep Experts accepts donations of other new and gently used comfort items including sheets, pillows, comforters and towels. Sleep Experts has recently opened seven stores in the Austin market with more planned by the end of 2012. For store locations, visit http://www.sleepexperts.com.

“As the holiday season approaches, we ask the community to help us give the gift of warmth and comfort to families in need,” said Christine Cook, wife, mom and president of Sleep Experts. “With the help of the Girl Scouts, and our new presence in Austin, we continue to expand the reach of this program and hope to Share the Warmth with a growing number of families each year.”

The Share the Warmth Blanket Drive is in its 9th year in North Texas, where Sleep Experts launched in 2003 and has 40 store locations. The annual blanket drive is an extension of the company’s Share the Gift of Sleep program, in which Sleep Experts donates recycled mattresses to local community partners helping families in need.
