National Wildlife Federation, San Francisco League of Conservation Voters, National Parks Conservation Association, Sierra Nevada Alliance and Many More Support Water Conservation & Yosemite Restoration Initiative

Multiple leading environmental organizations endorse Proposition F, the Water Conservation & Yosemite Restoration Initiative, the Yosemite Restoration Campaign announced today. Major local and national environmental groups supporting Prop F include:

National Wildlife Federation
San Francisco League of Conservation Voters
National Parks Conservation Association
Sierra Nevada Alliance
Foothill Conservancy
Forest Issues Group
Friends of the River
California Water Impact Network
Eco Equity
Endangered Species Coalition
The Planning and Conservation League
Earth Island Institute
Wild Equity

Prop F would require San Francisco to develop a plan to reform its 19th century water system and reverse the environmental damage caused by the system to the San Francisco Bay, the Tuolumne River and Yosemite National Park. The plan would need to be completed by 2015 and approved by voters in 2016 to be implemented. No environmental groups oppose Prop F.

“Environmental organizations have always led policy makers toward the right path of action, and they are doing just that on Proposition F,” said Mike McCloskey, former executive of the national Sierra Club and a member of the national advisory board of Restore Hetch Hetchy. “Broad-based environmentalist support for Proposition F reflects a shared appreciation for the need to revisit last century’s decisions and ask ourselves: can we do better?”

“Prop F does not require San Francisco to begin to recycle water, nor does it require San Francisco to restore Yosemite’s Hetch Hetchy Valley. What it does do is require San Francisco to develop a plan to accomplish both of these important goals, and then bring that plan back to the voters for approval in a subsequent election. Developing a plan to do better with the water we take from Yosemite is a good thing and the reason so many environmental organizations support Prop F,” said Amandeep Jawa, president of the San Francisco League of Conservation Voters.
