Passion, poise, and honor: "An American Fencer: Lee Keifer" was unveiled yesterday, representing artist Chris Saper's inaugural Olympic portrait

I wanted to convey a sense of Lee's amazing composure, regardless of what chaos surrounds her. I hope that I accomplished this.

The youngest member of the 2012 US Women's Olympic Fencing team,18 year-old Lee Keifer represented her country with the intensity, grace and skill for which she is so well known. Although Arizona portrait painter Chris Saper has painted family and corporate portraits for over two decades, the painting of Ms Keifer is her first entree in painting world class athletes.

"Getting to know Lee and her family has been one of the highlights of my career," says Saper. "She is a young woman mature beyond her years, elegant, focused and very centered." Keifer's portrait shows her dressed in the Olympic garb of her sponsor, Leon Paul, calm in the midst of a maelstrom of lively, even frenetic brushwork. Over the next five years, Saper is looking to expand and focus her work to include not just world-famous athletes, but everyday people working hard to excel in the sports they love.

Since beginning her portrait practice in 1991, Saper has painted nearly 400 portrait commissions for families and corporations nationwide. She has authored 2 books and 4 instructional DVDs, and is an active demonstrator, lecturer and teacher.
