Amerinet, Inc., a leading healthcare solutions organization collaborated with member El Rio Community Health Center to implement standardization and cost reduction initiatives which helped enhance the facility’s revenue and operating margins, minimizing the effect of state budget cuts and economic challenges and ensuring quality care for the underserved population in the region.
“Amerinet is definitely an integral member of the El Rio team. If it wasn’t for Amerinet’s valuable help and the way the business intelligence reports pinpointed immediate savings, we may not have been able to weather the storm. They have become my weapon-of-choice in the fight to save money,” said Scherri O’Connor, senior purchasing agent, El Rio Community Health Center
El Rio Community Health Center, based in the Tucson, Arizona area, began operations in 1964, with mission to provide affordable and accessible care for the tens of thousands of local residents near or below the federal poverty level. El Rio, which has been an Amerinet member since 1990, has grown to become the 14th largest healthcare system in the nation, serving over 900 residents a day.
Faced with a significant increase in the number of patients without insurance who were unable to afford care and significant budget cuts that would greatly impact revenue, El Rio, turned to Amerinet for solutions that could cut costs and increase revenues without making changes that would interfere with the continuity or quality of care.
Amerinet implemented its Amerinet Diagnostix business intelligence tools and reports to assist El Rio in identifying actionable information and to provide a lasting platform for strategic supply chain management. Amerinet also prepared an Opportunity Report for El Rio to analyze supply chain data and identify areas for significant savings. The Opportunity Report generates an immediate action plan for reducing costs by enabling on-the-spot signatory capability for “quick win” exact-matches.
Through this process El Rio discovered a 50 percent discount on common medical/surgical products and numerous “quick win” opportunities which provided savings near $100,000. “The opportunities we found had a cumulative effect on the morale of the whole organization. We started to realize there was light at the end of the tunnel. Our budgetary issues still existed, but the savings Amerinet found for El Rio went a long way to mitigate the problem. We improved the bottom line by about $100,000 last year and are now in the process of examining several other areas for potential savings identified with Amerinet’s business intelligence reports.
