Matt Cutts head of Anti-Spam at Google recently reported that Google are now notifying website owners for all manual actions taken to lower their website rankings. Samuel Junghenn founder of Digital Marketing Agency Think Big Online says it’s a welcomed announcement and one that should help settle the SEO industry.

“For years SEO professionals have been complaining about the lack of communication from Google when they are penalizing sites manually for any number of reasons. The announcement by Matt Cutts is welcomed especially for those sites which have been penalized and still can’t work out what they did wrong,” said Mr Junghenn.

Now this may all sound a bit weird for business owners but essentially a manual action is where a human being at Google has reviewed your site and manually penalized it. This kind of penalty is very hard to remove and often website owners won’t realize it for some time.

The only sign to date has been the lowering of traffic and search rankings, so the notification via email is now a great thing as website owners can respond quickly and minimize the affect on their businesses.
