We have more dogs and puppies waiting in the back to move into adoption, but can’t because of this bottleneck effect

There more than 30 dogs and nearly 40 puppies available for adoption at The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS). Dogs have been turned away since Thursday, October 25, due to a lack of space.

“We have more dogs and puppies waiting in the back to move into adoption, but can’t because of this bottleneck effect” says WHS CEO, Bill McDonald. “Puppies should not grow up in a shelter environment. We have great adult dogs of every look and personality waiting for their new home.”

In an attempt to get as many dogs out of the shelter and into homes, The WHS will be offering adult dogs at $99, puppies at $149 on Wednesday, October 31 from 10 am to 7 pm. The WHS will be handing out treats to costumed adopters, although they do caution not to wear face masks as they can upset the dogs.

This promotion applies to medium and large breed dogs. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, tattoo, first set of shots, de-worming, a two-week health check, 6 weeks of pet insurance, and a City of Winnipeg dog license. Each dog undergoes behavioural and medical assessments before being made available for adoption. WHS Adoption counsellors spend time with each adopter ensuring they select a dog that suits their lifestyle; as well as counselling adopters on pet tips, care and training.
