Analysis of mobile data traffic generated during the London 2012 Olympics has identified the most popular events viewed live on smartphones and tablets.

Athletics, cycling and tennis have emerged as the most watched Olympic events on mobile devices based on analysis by Amethon Solutions, a leading provider of mobile data analytics to mobile operators and wireless carriers.

Amethon used its Mobile Analytics solution, a big data streaming analytics platform, to analyse mobile data traffic generated during the London 2012 Olympic games on behalf of a number of mobile operators to help them understand how high profile sporting events drive mobile usage. By focusing on live mobile streaming by broadcasters such as the BBC in the UK and NBC in the USA, the most popular events could be identified.

"These events were the ratings winners during the Olympic games in terms of smartphones and tablets" said Michael Stone, CEO of Amethon Solutions. "This type of analysis helps our customers better plan network capacity for future events as well as quantify the monetization opportunities they represent".

A summary of the analysis as well as a number of recommendations for mobile operator CMOs and CTOs can be viewed at http://bit.ly/amethon_olympics.
