The product, seven years in the making, was created to provide hospitals, clinics and medical practices access to award-winning cinematic medical animations for use in marketing and at the point of care.
The Nucleus Animation Library (NAL) is a collection of accurate, award-winning 3D medical animations produced by graduate level medical writers, editors and animators working with a review board of 100+ physician experts. The growing collection contains more than 115 topics depicting the most common diseases, conditions, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
Lynne Sycamore, a registered nurse and the Patient and Family Education Coordinator at Gwinnett Medical Center in Atlanta, is a Nucleus customer who also provides guidance on the NAL’s discharge instruction animations for low literacy patients. Gwinnett Medical Center will ask patients to watch the animations at the hospital and at home, in an effort to reduce readmissions due to preventable surgical complications.

In addition to displaying the Nucleus Animation Library on corporate web sites and as patient education tools at the point of care, social media managers and other marketing professionals may also create new, custom social media videos to post to sites such as YouTube and Facebook, by combining the animations with proprietary videos featuring the hospital’s physicians and facilities.
“Video and social media are growing influencers of patient behavior, including whether to seek treatment, what hospital they will choose, and what specific treatment options they want,” said Ronald Collins, CEO. According to a 2012 report from PwC, a division of Price Waterhouse Cooper, 41% of 1,060 consumers surveyed said that information gathered from social media “would affect their choice of a specific doctor, hospital, or medical facility.”
Collins also points to YouTube as in indicator of the popularity of medical animations over other types of health videos, with Nucleus’s medical animation channel receiving over 140 million views and 53,000 subscribers since 2007. “YouTube is a proving ground for using medical animations as a way to improve health literacy by grabbing attention and focusing purely on the information,” he said. Nucleus licenses its animations to hospitals and clinics to combine with their own expert and patient videos to improve their performance on social media like YouTube and Facebook.
The collection, at press time, contains more than 115 topics depicting the most prevalent diseases, conditions, procedures, and diagnostic studies. Product licensees will receive regular content updates with an estimated two to three animated productions added per month. All of the animated videos are designed to help hospitals attract new patients, increase patient satisfaction and reduce readmissions.
