Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
UrtheCast is thrilled to announce the appointment of acclaimed Canadian entrepreneur Anthony Lacavera as Chairman of its Board of Directors. As Chairman & CEO of Globalive and WIND Mobile, Mr. Lacavera brings comprehensive telecommunications expertise to his new position as director of this international space tech startup, headquartered in Vancouver. Joining two existing board members, Anthony has signed on to help the company along its path towards providing the world’s first HD Earth video stream from space.
“Anthony is a leading Canadian entrepreneur who possesses both a breadth and depth of experience in the telecommunications industry,” says Scott Larson, UrtheCast President and Director. “Anthony will bring focus on driving UrtheCast from startup to achieving its mission of providing high-definition video and still images of the Earth to consumers and business users.”
As the newest director of Earth Video Camera Inc. (operating as ‘UrtheCast’), Mr. Lacavera joins Scott Larson (UrtheCast President), and Wade Larson (UrtheCast Cofounder and Executive Vice President) in steering the company towards affixing two cameras to the bottom of the International Space Station (ISS). The project will provide unprecedented opportunities for viewing the globe in near real-time and gaining a novel perspective on the planet. UrtheCast will provide rich Earth video data, including an open-source platform for developers, a data store for international organizations, and free video data for consumer and business internet users.
Mr. Lacavera is often lauded as one of Canada’s top entrepreneurs. Among other accolades, Lacavera was named 2010’s CEO of the Year by the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine, and he was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2006. Under his leadership, Globalive has garnered numerous ‘Best in Business’ awards including being named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed companies for the past seven consecutive years. Along with an educational background in computer engineering, Mr. Lacavera also boasts a tech-savvy, consumer-centric, strategic mentality -- a revolutionary vision to shakeup the world of telecommunications.
By further diversifying its board, UrtheCast takes another significant step towards realizing its goal of providing an interactive Earth video platform for everyone from internet users and app developers, to media outlets, and humanitarian relief organizations such as the United Nations.
Working in an exclusive partnership with Russia’s largest space organization, RSC Energia, UrtheCast is in the development stage of its two cameras, the web platform, and its ground station network across the planet. Once the cameras are live, UrtheCast’s socially integrated platform will begin to stream continuous footage to users on the web and on smartphones. At present, the UK’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) is building the two UrtheCast cameras that will be mounted to the Russian segment of the ISS in the first half of 2013.
Earth Video Camera Inc. (operating as ‘UrtheCast’) is a company created around a unique vision: to provide the world’s first near-live HD video feed of Earth, from space. Working with renowned aerospace partners from across the globe, UrtheCast is building, launching, installing, and operating two cameras on the Russian segment of the International Space Station. Video data collected by the cameras will be downlinked to ground stations across the planet and displayed in near real time on the UrtheCast web platform, or distributed directly to exclusive partners and customers. UrtheCast will provide this interactive platform and Earth imagery for internet users, app developers, educators, media outlets, government bodies, humanitarian relief organizations, and environmental monitoring services.
