Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
The PRO Sports Club in Bellevue will be converting Facebook 'likes' into $1 donations to cancer research during the month of October (up to $5000). By visiting their Facebook page and simply pressing the 'like' button, The PRO Sports Club will donate $1, ensuring that 100% of the proceeds will go to The American Cancer Society during their National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
While progress has been made over the last decade towards reducing the number of fatalities from breast cancer, it still remains the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. According to statistics from the American Cancer Society, recent estimates show that nearly 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected in 2012 alone and over 39,000 women will die from it.
Female breast cancer incidence rates began dropping in 2000, only to have stabilized since 2004. The initial decrease is thought to be due to the Women's Health Initiative of 2002, which prompted a decline in the use of hormone therapy commonly prescribed after menopause. Cancer rates for women under 50 have fallen dramatically in the last decade as a result of earlier detection through increased awareness and regular screening, due in no small part to the tireless efforts of The American Cancer Society. To date there are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
Since 1973, the PRO Sports Club in Bellevue, Washington has been dedicated to the health and well-being of its members. Proud of supporting the Breast Cancer Awareness initiative, The PRO Sports Club would also like to announce the success of their staff's annual t-shirt event on October 3rd and 6th. By selling their specially designed employee t-shirts, the staff raised over $2,200 that will all go to support cancer research.
