Author and Founder of the Money Coaching Institute Deborah Price announced the release of her new book “The Heart of Money” today. Published by New World Library, "The Heart of Money: A Couples Guide to Creating True Financial Intimacy" was written to help couples learn to work together to identify and move beyond their core financial differences.
“I wrote this book because far too many marriages are failing due to “irreconcilable” money issues which, I believe, can actually be resolved with the right help and support,” said Deborah Price. “Especially in these economic times, couples need help learning to communicate more effectively around money and in working together to resolve their financial challenges and conflicts,” said Price.
The book helps couples to learn to talk about money in a healthy way, communicate their needs, negotiate through money differences, and manage financially challenging times. “The Heart of Money” provides a step-by-step process for helping couples to explore their relationship with money and to create financial intimacy which Price describes as “the ability to openly and honestly communicate with our partner around money while safely expressing our hopes, fears, needs and concerns with love and respect for the highest good of the relationship.”
In her book, Price helps to identify some of the common “money traps” that couples can easily fall into such as:
- Using money as a form of control or manipulation
- Failure to understand each other's money fears and triggers
- Misunderstanding each other's financial wants and needs
- A clash in core values and priorities
- Unclear financial agreements and expectations
- Assuming unconscious roles (i.e. Dependent/Caretaker)
- Procrastinating or withholding pertinent financial information
Although the book is intended to be a self-help guide for couples, many people may need additional help and support to work through their money issues. A list of Money Coaches is provided in the back of the book. In addition, therapists, coaches and financial professionals seeking training in this area can become certified in the “Heart of Money” Couple’s Coaching Program offered by the Money Coaching Institute.
