Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
The Casting Society of America (CSA) held the 28th Annual Artios Awards For Outstanding Achievement in Casting last Sunday. The ceremony was held in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and hosted by Nicole Sullivan (MADtv, King of Queens). The New York ceremony, which was to be hosted by film/stage veteran Victor Garber, was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.
Winners of the 2012 awards included (among others): Kerry Barden and Paul Schnee for “The Help,” Kristy Carlson for “Happy Feet Two,” Jennifer Euston for “Girls,” Mark Saks and John Andrews for “The Good Wife,” and David Rubin and Richard Hicks, et. al. for “Game Change”--all of which used Cast It on their projects.
The contributions of Cast It to the casting industry were recognized this year by no other than Ben Affleck. This year, Mr. Affleck received the Career Achievement Award, previously won by such industry legends as Quentin Tarantino and Dick Wolf. In his acceptance speech, Affleck marveled at the ease with which his casting director (Lora Kennedy, recipient of this year’s Hoyt Bowers Award) was able to use Cast It to find actors for roles in his film Argo.
Lora and her team used Cast It during the 2+ year casting process to upload actors, auditions and other casting-related videos for the filmmakers to review. Using Cast It, the casting team were able to organize and manage the extensive collection of actors and video into Role Lists as well as folders within the project. Casting directors use the workflow features of Cast It to manage every aspect of their operation -- from creating lists to scheduling sessions. Having photos, reels and auditions available in Cast It's searchable database has completely changed the way casting is done today.
About Mr. Affleck, CSA President Pam Dixon said, “Ben is one of the first all encompassing filmmakers we have honored (sic). Ben is a consummate actor, director, writer, and producer. The Artios Awards are known for celebrating casting directors, who can challenge audiences with their original and bold ideas, and this applies to Lora, whose body of work exemplifies this.”
Held since 1985, the Artios Awards (from the ancient Greek word for “perfectly fitted”) honors excellence in casting on the basis of originality, creativity, and contribution of casting to the overall quality of a project.
