My book is all about glaucoma, meeting my amazing doctor from Nepal, Suman Thapa, raising money, the wonderful trips to Nepal, and more

According to the Glaucoma Research Foundation, glaucoma, the disease that damages optic nerves leading to irreversible vision loss, is the second leading cause of blindness. In her new book, “Nepal” (published by Balboa Press), author Kay Walls, president of the Nepal Glaucoma Eye Clinic Association, shares with readers her journey to Nepal in search of a cure and to raise awareness for glaucoma.
“My book is all about glaucoma, meeting my amazing doctor from Nepal, Suman Thapa, raising money, the wonderful trips to Nepal, and more,” Walls explains.
An excerpt from “Nepal”:
“My first visit to Nepal was in the winter of 2004, never again in winter. Suman would leave for work around 8am and return around 5pm. Shortly after, he would come into my room and we would have a little cognac, some nibbles and talk about his day. He was talking about organising the first Glaucoma Awareness Week. We discussed what he would do and then he would talk about how he would like to have a Glaucoma Clinic one day. So I started to think about this and he told me he needed at least $50,000 just to build the clinic. I thought I could do that. Surely, I could raise the money. He was thinking US dollars; I was thinking Australian dollars! I immediately started to plan and because it was so bitterly cold outside, we spent a lot of time inside. I had a lovely big room with morning sun.”
Walls wrote “Nepal” to inspire others to help those who are in need, and to do so unconditionally.
“My book is not a literary masterpiece, but it is written from my heart.”
