Competitors must dress up as a 1980’s era superhero for their travels.
Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
Prestige Luxury Car Rentals helped sponsor long-time customer Roland “Rocco” Gardner on his quest to travel as far away from New York City as he could in 24 hours, all in the name of pug rescue. The unusual competition, called “Escape for Good” is sponsored by the team behind experiential festivals Escape to New York, Montauk and LA, with support from leading PR and creative firm Sunshine Sachs.
Gardner, a native of the U.K. who resides in New York City, contacted Prestige Fleet Manager Luis Marmolejo for sponsorship in the charitable event. Competitors who cover the most miles have a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize and other prizes, and just as important, they can also request friends and family to sponsor them on a per-mile basis to raise funds for the charitable organization of their choice.
Gardner was raising funds for Pugs U Gotta Save, (P.U.G.S.), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the needs of abandoned and surrendered Pugs in Virginia. P.U.G.S. rescues pugs from animal shelters, puppy mills and from owners unable to continue caring for their dog, and provides foster care for each pug until permanent placement in a loving home is found.
An airplane ticket was donated for Gardner to fly from Norfolk to Miami, where Prestige Luxury Car Rentals stepped in to sponsor Gardner by providing a Cadillac Escalade for the Miami-to-Key West leg of Gardner’s race at no charge. Competitors must leave New York with no money, and are not permitted to spend their own money on any form of transportation. Any transportation they do use must be donated, according to “Escape for Good” rules.
Additionally, competitors must dress up as a 1980’s era superhero for their travels. Gardner raised $1,274, and his teammate Buck Master raised $145 for P.U.G.S.
Marmolejo says that Gardner is a valued long-time customer at Prestige Luxury Car Rentals, and someone the company is proud to sponsor for the “Escape” charity race.
“He’s an important customer to us, and he’s a great guy,” Marmolejo says. “Of course we’re happy to contribute to this type of event, especially one that raises money for a great cause like pug rescue.”
