About Postal Credit Union (PCU)
PCU is a member-owned, full service financial cooperative founded in 1926, in St. Paul MN. It is the eighth largest credit union in Minnesota, with its corporate headquarters located in Woodbury MN. PCU is committed to quality service, taking pride in providing its members with financial solutions they can trust, with a staff that takes ownership for each member experience.
Challenges of their current IT Situation
Earlier this year, PCU was unexpectedly faced with replacing key IT staff. Due to the increasing complexity of IT systems, requirements for 24x7 IT staff availability, and the rapid pace of business change, PCU’s IT staff was finding it increasingly difficult to both maintain and enhance its IT infrastructure.
PCU was forced to evaluate 2 options; hire two or more network administrators or contract with a managed service provider to monitor, support, and maintain its IT infrastructure. Due to highly competitive local IT job market, and the uncertainty that comes with the employee hiring process, PCU chose to look further into hiring a managed services provider.
PCU interviewed five local managed services providers. They chose Sovran because they provided Total Care, the most comprehensive and flexible service offering, a clear, competitive, and an affordable pricing model that is easy to understand and monitor, and also because Sovran is well organized, and has highly knowledgeable and professional staff. A key factor in choosing Sovran is their SSAE16 is complete and the SOC II certification is in-process. Having earned these certifications cemented Sovran as the market leader staying up to date with the latest technologies.
The biggest benefit is that PCU gets access to collective knowledge and experience of the entire Sovran organization. “Although we are still in the middle of the onboarding process, PCU has experienced the positive effects of this benefit numerous times”, stated Lawrence Miggler, Senior Vice President, Information Systems, of PCU. “Sovran has been very responsive to PCU’s needs and has shown a high-level of commitment with its relationship with PCU, the staff has been very professional and has formed good working relationships with PCU’s internal IT staff.”
PCU employs numerous, critical, line-of-business applications to deliver the high-quality products and services that its members have come to expect. Supporting these applications requires a very close relationship with the organization that would be difficult for a third party to provide. With Sovran monitoring and supporting the underlying IT infrastructure, PCU’s internal IT staff can focus the majority of its efforts on the support and enhancement of these critical line-of-business applications.
