Bluemont, Va. (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
Virginia firefighters will be among the volunteers donating their time over Veterans Day weekend to help clear land at Boulder Crest Retreat, a rural sanctuary that will provide accommodations and non-clinical therapies and recreational activities for wounded warriors and their families to assist with their recovery. More than 60 volunteers are expected to take part in the work day event on Saturday, November 10, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the retreat grounds in Bluemont, Va.
“It is great to have people come together to lend a hand to show their appreciation and support of our wounded warriors and their families,” said Ken Falke, founder of Boulder Crest Retreat. “I am very thankful for all of the ways people are contributing to the creation of Boulder Crest and I look forward to working alongside our volunteers on November 10.”
The volunteers will clear brush to create a pathway along the creek and pond on the scenic 37-acre property, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is the second time firefighters will volunteer at the retreat which will include career personnel, volunteer and retired firefighters from Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.
“When I met Ken and learned about the retreat, I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of,” said Raul Perla, a Fairfax County firefighter and senior chief petty officer in the Navy Reserves. “It is a way for me and my fellow firefighters to say thank you to our wounded warriors during the holiday weekend that honors our nation’s veterans.”
Boulder Crest Retreat is scheduled to open next summer and will feature four handicap accessible cabins, a meeting house, organic gardens, a pond and bird sanctuary, and a workshop. The retreat will provide wounded military and their families with a scenic and peaceful environment to spend time with each other while enjoying activities such as nature walks, yoga and meditation classes, and off-site excursions.
