M. Keith Kapp Sworn in as President of the NC State Bar

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that M. Keith Kapp has been sworn in as President of the North Carolina State Bar.

Mr. Kapp serves as vice-chairman of the board of directors at Williams Mullen and was recently recognized as one of the “Leaders in the Law” for 2012 by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. In addition to his new role as president, Keith’s service to the State Bar has included nine years as a Bar Councilor representing Wake County’s 10th Judicial District, two years as Chair of the Ethics Committee and two years as Chair of the Facilities Committee. As Facilities Chair, Keith oversaw site approval and acquisition; selection and hiring of the architects; and selection and hiring of the construction firm for the new State Bar Headquarters now going up at the corner of Blount and Edenton Streets in downtown Raleigh.

In regards to his new post, Mr. Kapp comments, "First and foremost, we have the duty to protect the public of North Carolina. In everything we do to regulate our profession, we must keep that as our guiding light. Under the statutory charge that we have, we must ask each time, ‘What is best for the public of North Carolina?’ in the manner in which we regulate the profession."

In his practice, Keith represents businesses, ranging from multi-national to private or family-owned enterprises, in connection with their commercial litigation and regulatory needs. He advises clients on the laws of contract, shareholder rights, antitrust, franchise relations, warranty, consumer protection, unfair trade practices and various regulatory statutes. As a member of the Commercial Arbitration Panel of the American Arbitration Association, Keith also provides arbitration services.

Mr. Kapp is active in many civic organizations, including the Moravian Ministries Foundation, the Raleigh Kiwanis Club and the Raleigh Little Theatre.

The swearing in took place on Thursday, October 25 at the annual meeting of the State Bar of North Carolina at the downtown Marriott in Raleigh.
