Derick Downs, BidsList founder and CEO, began his career immediately after graduating high school at Rancho Bernardo High School in 2002. He gained several business skills while growing up from his father Rick Downs, owner of Rancho Bernardo Tire and Brake. With motivation for wealth and success, Derick Downs decided to get an entry job in the mortgage industry with Chevy Chase Bank. After learning the real estate process, and the mortgage sales cycle, Derick jumped head first into a commission only sales position at a small mortgage company named United Financial Mortgage. During the time at United Financial, Derick held the title as top account executive for many consecutive months in a row.
When the mortgage industry started to collapse, Derick quickly shifted industries to insurance. He went to work as an insurance sales representative with a well known company named North Western Mutual Financial Network. North Western Mutual’s sales training taught Derick Downs many aspects in business such as; customer loyalty, business planning, and risk management. “I learned more from trying to make sales and failing, then I could have ever read about in books, classes, or seminars. The biggest thing I learned is to not take sales personal. I'm used to hearing tons of "No Thank Yous", or just hang ups, before I will get one yes when selling any product via cold call. Its all a numbers game,” said Downs. Apart from his extensive communication skills, and keen business sense, Derick Downs has a persistent passion to be the best at everything he does.
In 2010 Derick Downs was presented with an opportunity to help Sony Electronics with the conversion of their existing software to SAP. In the middle of the transition, Sony realized that they had millions dollars in past due invoices from vendors all over the world that didn't convert with the new Software Update. Derick Downs helped create a process for Sony in order to manual bill past due invoices to current vendors such as; Best Buy, Rent-A-Center, Sears, and many other suppliers of Sony products. Derick Downs department generated around $4 million dollars a month until the SAP software was able to work systematically.
Derick Downs said, “Once working at Sony I started to understand the benefits of outsourcing. After dealing with numerous developers at Sony, I realized any concept I could think of can be created by somebody, somewhere, in the world for a fraction of the cost." Shortly after the Sony project came to an end, Derick Downs began his quest to disrupt the underground economy of unlicensed activity, with a new venture called 'BidsList'. Almost a year from launch, BidsList is now the first broker in the United States to offer peace of mind for any service related project. BidsList serves as a neutral 3rd party, or "middle man" for any type of residential construction services, commercial construction services, or a variety of online services.
BidsList (http://www.bidslist.com) has created a unique process that truly benefits all parties involved. Each project is assigned to an individual representative who: schedules meetings for providers to give accurate onsite or online bids, create binding contracts with all parties involved in a project, facilitates funds throughout the entire project as needed, and provides a dispute resolution process for any unforeseen incidents. Service Seekers can now pair with quality service providers, at an affordable price, with the helping hands of BidsList. BidsList charges a small fee to be a member of their community, as well as a small percentage to the service provider based on the project amount.
BidsList unique process is very similar to an attorney. A service seeker must place a retainer fee for the project with BidsList. Once funds are verified then BidsList will work with the seeker and verified professionals to get the project completed. The process is the only way to assure the BidsList representative, as well as the service provider, that a service seeker is vested into the project with BidsList. The worst thing an any profession is preforming work when the service seeker does not have sufficient funds to pay for the job you've already completed. BidsList has eliminated this from happening with their new process for hiring service providers of all types.
Derick Downs proves to be a favorable budding entrepreneur. Expect to see him scale newer heights in the days to come. Derick Downs is seeking investor partnerships to expand BidsList into several other markets as well as territories around the world.
