On October 1, 2012, modern baby bedding manufacturer Argington comments on a recent article discussing the long-term effects different methods of sleep training have on early child development and the associated impact on parent mental health.

According to the article, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute at the Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville conducted a study on sleep deprivation in children under the age of 12 months.Overseen by Anna Price, a postdoctoral research fellow, the study not only observed the sleeping patterns of the children but the overall effect on parents as well, reports As states, “sleep problems, reported by about 45 percent of parents in the second half of their baby's first year, are a major risk factor for maternal depression and a common and costly driver of health care visits during infancy, according to the research.” The study showed that after a five year period, “no differences were observed in either set of families for any measure, including children's emotional and behavioral health, sleep habits and stress levels, parent-child closeness and parental depression or anxiety.”

Argington representative Clay Darrohn weighed in, commenting, “The importance of sleep training cannot be underestimated and this study shows that parents don’t need to be afraid while implementing the two most popular strategies to help their babies learn to sleep. One thing that parents don’t have to worry about is their babies’ physical comfort. At Argington, we create bedding that is comfortable for the baby, no matter what tactics for sleep training that the parent chooses to use.”

Additionally reports that this study will help ease parental stresses while using different methods of sleep training. The study exhibits that there is no long-term detrimental effect for either babies or their parents, no matter which sleep training method is utilized.
