A representative from Likewise Skincare responds to an increased number of psoriasis sufferers that may be affected by “psoriasis arthritis.”

On October 3rd, Likewise Skincare, manufacturer of daily skin care products, reacts to an article published by The Daily Mail regarding arthritis brought on by the skin condition psoriasis.

According to The Daily Mail, Kelly Simpkin recently revealed her battle with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The article revealed that “[Simpkin] is one of 200,000 Britons with psoriatic arthritis (PsA), a form of arthritis where joint pain and severe fatigue is accompanied by psoriasis, an uncomfortable, itchy skin condition that causes unsightly red, flaky patches.” According to David Isenberg, a professor of rheumatology at University College London, “Arthritis and psoriasis might sound very different, but in fact the conditions are both caused by an overactive immune system.” In addition, the article reveals that approximately 20% of people with psoriasis will develop a form of arthritis.

The Daily Mail article explains that psoriasis causes an over-multiplication of skin cells and because they are unable to shed as quickly as they’re created, patches of scaly, dry skin will develop. Likewise Skincare, a scientific skincare brand, specializes in creating moisturizers for various different skin types. According to Lisa Shariat, Likewise representative, “Likewise Skincare produces hydrating moisturizers that can help calm dry, itchy, skin and reduce redness. My recommendation for psoriasis sufferers is to see a dermatologist to help combat the condition and to follow an effective skincare routine.”

Dr. Philip Helliwell, senior lecturer in rheumatology at the University of Leeds, explains that over 200 different types of arthritis exist, which makes diagnosing psoriatic arthritis challenging. “There is no specific test for PsA — diagnosis is formed by studying symptoms and examining inflammation with an MRI scan,” The Daily Mail reports.

Likewise Skincare was founded by board-certified dermatologist and President of Likewise, Inc., Dr. Julie Pena. Likewise daily moisturizers are all-in-one but not one-fits-all. Each moisturizer is created with skin-balancing toners that are meant to work with your unique skin type. The moisturizers use a combination of anti-aging antioxidants, ultra-protective zinc oxide and water-resistant ingredients to keep you protected.
