Research has estimated that the microgrid market will reach $17 billion annually and grow from a current 349 megawatts (MW) to over 1.1 gigawatts (GW) by 2017.

Infocast, the leading business intelligence and network events producer in the renewable and clean-tech industry, has announced its second Military & Commercial Microgrids Summit in Del Mar, CA on November 7-9, 2012.

The US Department of Defense is investing $7 billion in renewable energy projects due to concerns about energy security and reliability. Microgrid systems combined with on-site generation are a solution for both energy reliability and security, and the DOD has taken notice with a number of projects, both underway and planned. But the DOD is not alone, as analysts project the market for commercial microgrids to skyrocket. Pike Research has estimated that the microgrid market will reach $17 billion annually and grow from a current 349 megawatts (MW) to over 1.1 gigawatts (GW) by 2017.

Infocast’s Military & Commercial Microgrids Summit will bring early adopters and implementers of microgrids in military applications, campuses, remote communities, hospitals, airports, net-zero facilities and data centers together with system integrators, equipment vendors and software providers who have successfully installed microgrids. The summit will provide information on how to form a compelling business case for microgrids in myriad application areas, quantifying the energy security, power quality and reliability benefits, against the cost of adding new equipment.

Confirmed speakers to date include representatives from Boeing Energy, California State University Office of the Chancellor, Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability, Honeywell Laboratories, Lockheed Martin MS2, MAGTFTC MCAGCC PWD, Marine Corps Installations West, Naval District Washington, NAVFAC, OSIsoft, SAIC, Siemens, S&C Electric, Schneider Electric, U.S. Army Research Laboratory and Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium (WERC).
