Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay $600,000 to settle three lawsuits on its DePuy Hip replacement systems
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 05, 2012
The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than Bruce Bernier and people who suffer from Hip Replacements. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.
According to court documents, on August 31st, 2012, a Texas man, Bruce Bernier, filed a lawsuit in Texas Northern District Court (case no. 3:2012cv03574) alleging he suffered metal poisoning from his DePuy Pinnacle hip implant. DePuy Orthopeadics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, is facing more than 3,500 lawsuits alleging that its ASR hip replacement (multidistrict litigation MDL 2197) and 900 lawsuits alleging that the metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip replacement systems (multidistrict litigation MDL 2244) were defectively designed. In the lawsuit Bernier claims he was implanted with the DePuy Pinnacle hip in 2008. He allegedly developed metal poisoning from the implant and suffers pain and disability.
As BusinessWeek reported in August 2012, Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay $600,000 to settle three lawsuits on its DePuy Hip replacement systems (Clark County District Court, case no. A-11-636272). The lawsuits allege that plaintiffs had the hip replacement removed after experiencing severe adverse events.

As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, “What all this information really illustrates is that threat from DePuy Hip Replacement remains. In 2010 approximately 93,000 DePuy ASR hip replacements were recalled. Several lawsuits have been consolidated in two Multi District Litigations: ASR Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2197) and Pinnacle Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2244).
