When a husband’s wife nicknames him “the Forrest Gump of 3M,” it’s a clear indication that some common-sense wisdom is about to be had. With the release of his new book, “Traveling Business Class: How I Enjoyed Traveling without Paying for It” (published by iUniverse), Randall L. Erickson (a.k.a. “the Forrest Gump of 3M”) does not disappoint.
3M is the global innovation company that has produce thousands of imaginative products and is the leader in scores of markets. Erickson worked for the company for over three decades. Yet, his new book isn’t about how to land a great job at a innovative, imaginative company; it’s about how to live an innovative, imaginative life, and have a good time doing it.
From the book’s back cover:
In this unusual memoir and travelogue, a longtime employee of 3M climbs up the corporate ladder and starts traveling the world—for free.
Author Randall L. Erickson, PhD, recalls his adventures of traveling throughout the world. He looks back on being named an honorary member of the House of Lords, meeting the pope one Easter Sunday in Rome, and touring the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
Those stories are just the beginning; he also shares the hilarious tales of how he pretended to be a male prostitute in Madrid and how he was saved from a Chinese prison because he smoked cigarettes. He also provides practical guidance, such as how to find a western toilet in Japan, how to dry your underwear when your luggage doesn’t arrive, and tips on experimenting with new foods.
Erickson hopes his adventures inspire other travelers to have adventures of their own.
“There are so many people today who travel overseas,” says Erickson. “So many business travelers are stressed by their international trips. Time changes and work schedules are demanding during these trips. Relax and have a little fun on your travels and you’ll enjoy them more.”
