Novitas Group, LLC today announced that Lieutenant Commander Matthew R. Maasdam, Navy SEAL and former Military Aide to the President of the United States has joined the company as a Director. Maasdam will focus on Novitas Group’s continuity of government and business programs.

“Matt is an exceptional leader. He is a smart, dedicated, and innovative problem solver who inspires teams to greatness,” said Novitas Group CEO Chris Taylor. “As a SEAL, he led and deployed his teams around the world in support of national security policy. As Military Aide to the President, he helped ensure our government was prepared for any emergency. He brings with him a deep and wide view of the world which will serve the entire Novitas Group team.”

"Chris’ reputation for vision and results are known industry-wide. I saw it first-hand when we were graduate students together. Novitas Group attracted me because they’ve put together a diverse team with global experience in solving tough problems and getting sustainable results and I wanted to be part of that. I look forward to contributing to this fantastic team.”

Maasdam spent 14 years as a Navy SEAL graduating with BUD/S Class 223. As Military Aide to the President, he led the coordination and implementation of Emergency Actions for the President, including continuity of government operations, with full responsibility for the “nuclear football”. Before serving at the White House, Matt represented U.S. Special Operations Command on interagency teams at the National Counterterrorism Center that focused on counter-piracy and strategic planning against Al-Qaeda. A 2008 graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School, Matt was awarded the Lucius N. Littauer Fellowship for academic excellence. Before moving to Washington DC, he led the famed ‘Hell Week’ at SEAL training in Coronado, CA, and deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, and the Pacific where he specialized in counterterrorism and diplomatic security in high threat environments. Among his many awards are the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Matt is originally from Nebraska and a graduate of the University of Michigan. He is married to Laura Tuck Maasdam, a former U.S. Navy Seahawk helicopter pilot. They have two sons, Abraham and Nathaniel.
