Women of reproductive age often have complex gynecological problems — endometriosis, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, polyps, fibroids, and polycystic ovaries — that can make future family building difficult. These challenges, coupled with the recent explosion in preconception genetic testing options, led to the Fertility Wellness Center established under the auspices of Reproductive Associates of Delaware (RAD).

The Center will dovetail with successful consultative and evaluation techniques already utilized by the specialized clinical team at RAD. “Our approach is designed to help women and men achieve optimal reproductive health prior to attempting or achieving pregnancy,” stated Dr. Lenore Tietjens-Grillo, the Fertility Wellness Center’s Director. “As a part of RAD, the Fertility Wellness Center can efficiently and comprehensively treat gynecologic diseases that commonly contribute to infertility and miscarriage.

The Fertility Wellness team will also consult with patients about age-related contributions to reproductive health and future family building, along with addressing genetic and family history and state-of-the-art approaches for fertility preservation. Preconception genetic carrier testing is growing as an important option for future parents, particularly since targeted testing can diagnose many different inherited diseases and chromosome abnormalities within IVF embryos prior to pregnancy. The Fertility Wellness team at RAD includes Tracy Gardner, MS, CGC, an experienced and Board certified genetic counselor.

The Center will also expand RAD’s commitment to lifestyle coaching for patients with weight and metabolic challenges, along with addressing other factors that interfere with fertility and pregnancy. “Patients are often surprised at the positive results they see after making behavior modifications,” commented Rhonda Wright, Director of Lifestyle Programs and one of RAD’s Physician Assistants. “The concept of an established fertility center providing integrated gynecologic, genetic, and wellness care for enhancing healthy pregnancy outcomes is revolutionary,” she added. “This Center embodies our commitment to providing the highest quality of care for our patients.”

Reproductive Associates of Delaware, established in 1995, is a subspecialty fertility practice with locations in Newark, Wilmington, and Dover. In addition to Dr. Tietjens-Grillo, RAD’s other Board certified physicians are Drs. Barbara McGuirk, Ronald Feinberg, George Kovalevsky, and Adrienne Neithardt. RAD’s IVF program and Fertility Wellness Center are located on the main campus of the Christiana Care Health System in Newark.
