Your local Detroit Area Honda Dealer Association is looking for Detroit high school students to get creative, educate their peers, and possibly even win a scholarship.

With the launch of their “Think B4 U Text” initiative last month, the Detroit Honda Dealers, in partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, are getting involved in the community to help educate teens on the dangers of texting while driving.

And this month, your Detroit Honda Dealers are tasking teenagers with a new project…to spread the message through a thirty second PSA. From October 1st through October 28th, Detroit teenagers, enrolled in 9th-12th grade have the opportunity to conceive and craft their own message in the form of a thirty-second PSA commercial on the dangers of texting while driving.

Videos will be voted on by local peers and the community, and the five videos with the most votes will move on to the final round. From there the community will have another week to vote for their favorite of the five and the top three videos with the most votes will be announced on November 13th.

The first place winner of the contest will receive a $3,000 scholarship and will have their winning PSA aired on local TV. Second place will receive a $1,500 scholarship, and Honorable Mention will be awarded a $500 scholarship.

Rick Fischer, member of the Detroit Area Honda Dealer Association and owner of Fischer Honda in Ypsilanti, is excited to view the work that comes from this contest. “I think it is a great opportunity for local teenagers to be creative and put something together that their peers may relate to more than if an adult tried to get on their level. These teens may be able to tell their story and have it relate and be more real for other teens,” said Fischer.

For official rules and more details on the PSA contest, teenagers can visit ThinkB4UText.com, or email questions to ThinkB4UText(at)gmail(dot)com.
