Since 2010, the Palm Harbor, Fla.-based company has held two blood drives per year – one in the spring and one in the fall. The latest drive hosted on September 21 collected 53 pints of blood for Florida Blood Services, potentially sustaining life for 159 patients.

Each time we host a blood drive we make it our goal to exceed the numbers from the previous time

On September 21, 2012, employees of Nationwide Title Clearing(NTC), which is a leading service provider to the mortgage and financial industry, donated 53 pints of blood for Florida Blood Services (FBS) surpassing any previously established record for NTC. Since each pint helps to sustain life to as many as three people, the 53 pints were enough to sustain life to as many as 159 patients. Overall, NTC employees have donated a total of 220 pints of blood due to the numerous blood drives held over the years, potentially helping a total of 660 people.

“Each time we host a blood drive we make it our goal to exceed the numbers from the previous time,” said John Hillman, NTC’s CEO. One of the reasons NTC has been able to do this is due to their unprecedented expansion in 2012. As a large Palm Harbor employer that performs land records research and reporting services and processes documents for the residential mortgage servicing industry, NTC added 130 employees so far in 2012 and 56 in the last quarter alone. Most documents that NTC processes for mortgage servicers are lien release documents that clear paid-in-full mortgages from land records when borrowers pay off their mortgages, refinance their homes, or sell their homes. The company has over 300 local employees, and that number continues to grow.

In the Tampa Bay area, 38 hospitals and 80 ambulatory care centers in Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties depend on FBS for whole blood, and blood products and services.

FBS collects more than 750 pints of blood every day- almost 80 percent of the blood it collects is donated on their bloodmobiles, portable units and express units, which is why blood drives like those held by NTC are important. This year, NTC needed two bloodmobiles to accommodate the amount of people who donated.

NTC plans to continue hosting blood drives during workdays at NTC headquarters in Palm Harbor to make it convenient for employees to participate.
