With this event, we have a fun way to empower children to help others.

A Baton Rouge area family dentist is helping the military this fall, while literally, “putting his money where his mouth is.” This Halloween trick-or-treaters can bring their extra candy to Dr. John Portwood’s office at 9069 Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge and receive $1 for every pound of candy, up to 5 pounds, that they bring in. With the help of Operation Gratitude, Dr. Portwood is sending this candy to our troops overseas to help support them in their cause. Not only is this a treat for the troops, but many times they give the candy to the children in the region to promote goodwill and obtain information.
“Visiting the dentist regularly, and brushing and flossing are great for the prevention of cavities, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really help with the children’s oral health,” says Dr. Portwood. “With our program, kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus by the kids knowing that their candy is going for a great cause, they can feel like they are contributing to something special.”
Candy will be collected at Dr. Portwood’s office on Thursday November 1st, the day after Halloween from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. Candy must be unopened and will be collected for shipment to the troops. Bring the kids to collect their money, gift bags, and to meet the tooth fairy. They will also have the opportunity to draw a picture to send to the troops along with their candy.
