“Each of our digital magazines is based on the beautiful and thoughtful layout of the print magazine, while adding layers of functional enhancement and image depth only a high-resolution touchscreen device can deliver,” Revzon said.

Newtown, CT (PRWEB) October 02, 2012

The Taunton Press announced today the launch of digital editions for all of their brands. Fine Cooking, Fine Homebuilding, Fine Woodworking, Fine Gardening, and Threads digital editions can all be downloaded to iPad or iPhone, allowing immediate access to the brands’ trusted information, inspiration, tools and resources on the house and home anywhere anytime. Taunton Interactive Senior Vice President Jason Revzon made the announcement.

“Each of our digital magazines is based on the beautiful and thoughtful layout of the print magazine, while adding layers of functional enhancement and image depth only a high-resolution touchscreen device can deliver,” Revzon said. “We wanted to make our customers’ lives easier by providing them with the information and resources they want when and how they want them.”

The benefits Taunton’s audience asked for in recent surveys are all reflected in the digital editions: The issues are searchable, zoomable, clickable, and enhanced with extra photos and slide shows, tutorials, and techniques videos.

In creating the digital editions using the framework from their UK-based partner Stonewash, Taunton’s editorial teams went beyond basic enhancements to add interactive tools to make cooking, woodworking, building, gardening, and sewing even more rewarding. For example:

  •     Threads models spin 360 degrees to show off all angles of the garments.
  •     Fine Cooking recipes are reformatted in a special “Kitchen View” for easy cooking from a tablet.
  •     Fine Gardening offers mini-quizzes and plant IDs.
  •     Fine Woodworking shows off beautiful woodturning pieces in the voice of the craftsman with an audio slideshow.
  •     Fine Homebuilding goes behind the scenes to meet the owners and architects of the Houses Awards issue.

The tablet editions are available for free to print subscribers and paid online members, or for sale directly in the iTunes store, where the apps are already highly ranked (e.g. Fine Cooking is currently No. 1 in the Food/Drink category and Fine Homebuilding is No. 1 in Home & Garden in Apple’s newsstand). Taunton plans to launch on Android tablets, Kindle Fire HD, and the new Microsoft Windows 8 Surface tablet over the next few months.
