Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 01, 2012
Urban Waxx, Portland’s favorite spot to get smooth, will host a 24-hour ““Waxx-a-thon” Oct. 6-7, 2012 to celebrate its five year anniversary and give back to two local causes.
The charity Waxx-a-thon will take place at Urban Waxx’s Northwest Portland location at 1036 NW 18th Ave. beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 until 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.
The company’s goal is to raise $5,000 for two very deserving local non-profit organizations: Friends of Trees, which works “to plant and care for city trees and green spaces;” and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-described order of “queer nuns” who are committed to “community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment.”
The event will be a continuous celebratory atmosphere where guests can get smooth by either stopping in anytime during the event or by reserving a slot online.
Urban Waxx will serve up coffee from Sterling Coffee Roasters and Voodoo Doughnuts in the morning. The Koi Fusion food truck will serve up its famed Korean BBQ from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and in the evening, guests can enjoy beer from Red Hook Brewing, wine from Caps and Corks and a midnight pizza party courtesy of Eat Pizza!
Every hour throughout the Waxx-a-thon, Urban Wax will raffle off generous prizes from more than 15 local businesses, including Southpark restaurant, Oh Baby Lingerie, PBJ’s gourmet food cart and more. One lucky grand prize winner will receive one free year of Brazilian waxing at Urban Waxx.
Raffle tickets are available for purchase at any of the three Urban Waxx Portland locations, or over the phone, until the event begins. Anyone who books a service at Urban Waxx during the Waxx-a-thon are automatically entered into the raffle.
The Waxx-a-thon has been a dream of Urban Waxx’s founder and owner Shannon Conley’s, since she opened the successful salon five years ago. After working in the beauty industry for two decades, Conley says a love of waxing pushed her to open Urban Waxx – where she strives to create a safe and positive environment for employees and clients alike with a commitment to over-the-top customer service and a dedication to giving back.
“But boy, oh boy did I fall in love with waxing,” said Conley. “I loved everything about it. I loved the fact that I could see my work immediately… I loved that I had a natural gift of making people laugh during otherwise incredibly awkward situations, and I loved that it was quick and fun.”
According to Project Coordinator Adriana Ryding, “The Urban Waxx family wants to thank clients old and new for five great years at this event with raffle gifts-- including a grand prize of one free year of Brazilian waxing at Urban Waxx-- and complimentary food and beverages throughout the 24 hours.”
