Pacific Play Systems, Inc.'s Custom Design for New Playground Equipment Project at MCCS in San Diego

After just recently being awarded the Walker Park design-build project for the City of San Diego and another playground project for the Los Angeles Air Force Base, Pacific Play Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of commercial playground equipment on the west coast, has just been awarded a large project for the Marine Corps Community Services in San Diego. Elizabeth Bemanian, Vice President at Pacific Play Systems, reports that the Marine Corps project will include multiple Playcraft playground structures, climbing walls, net climbing structures, a Marine Landing Craft, a re-locatable sandbox, a number of swings and a tire swing. Bemanian points out that the entire playground was designed with a high degree of ADA accessibility with a number of accessible ground level components, as well as ramp accessible elevated play components. Bemanian further elaborates that this equipment was designed for two different age groups, 2-5 and 5-12.
The scope of work for this project includes removal of the existing equipment, fencing and sand, and installation of new equipment, site furnishings, benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles and approximately 8,600 SF of new poured in place rubberized surfacing featuring bright colors and natural patterns. Additionally, the entire site will be secured with a new 4' high fence. The new equipment will showcase six of Playcraft's new shade sail canopies. These graceful large shade tops will tower over the play structures and provide much needed shade throughout the entire playground site during hot summer days.
Uniquely, the entire project has been designed to be completely ADA accessible. By incorporating transfer stations, ADA accessible ramps, and a wide range of both active and passive ground level as well as elevated play components, the entire playground will be accessible and open for children of all abilities to enjoy.
Installation of the new playground equipment, site furnishings, and poured in place surfacing is set to begin in December and should be completed by early January. Bemanian explains that the completion time for this project will take approximately 4-6 weeks and will include site work, demo and hauling. Estimated total cost for this project is approximately $350,000. Considering the amazing and unique designs provided for this project, it would seem that for the children of the Marine Corps Community Services, Christmas will not only occur in December, but in January, as well, when the children get their thrills with their new playground equipment!
