Orlando, FL (PRWEB) October 03, 2012
Zahara Umansky, founding partner of The Umansky Law Firm, recently spoke at the Orange County Bar Association Paralegal Section's seminar, "Under the Microscope: Florida's Stand Your Ground Law.” The seminar took place August 29 at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The panel, which was attended by attorneys and paralegals, discussed if the Stand Your Ground Law should be changed or repealed. The panel also included Florida Senator David Simmons, Judge Bob LeBlanc, and a moderator, Paul Owens from the Orlando Sentinel.
“I believe in Stand Your Ground law. I think that every law can be used by bad people to do bad things. But, if it’s used by the right people, the way it’s intended to be, then it’s a useful law,” Zahra Umansky said at the OCBA.
The panel discussed various aspects of the Stand Your Ground Law, and why the law should not apply to State v. Zimmerman (2012-CF-001083-A). Umansky is not only an experienced Florida criminal lawyer, but she also defended George Zimmerman in 2005 during a Resisting Arrest with Violence and Battery case, adding to a unique perspective of the law and the Zimmerman case.
