It is hypocritical of Muallem to throw accusations at foreign governments while his regime is receiving Russian arms and Iranian fighters to suppress the Syrian revolution for freedom.

Syrian foreign minister Walid Muallem today accused foreign governments of "supporting terrorists" in Syria during the 67th U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York. As the Assad regime continues to shell its own cities, Muallem shamelessly called for a dialogue with the opposition. The Syrian American Council believes that the call for dialogue was a sham while hundreds of Syrians are being killed by the Assad regime on a daily basis.
In a statement, president of SAC Dr. Talal Sunbulli said, "It is hypocritical of Muallem to throw accusations at foreign governments while his regime is receiving Russian arms and Iranian fighters to suppress the Syrian revolution for freedom. Moreover, it is impossible to have a dialogue with a brutal regime engaged in shelling its own cities, torturing detainees, and killing hundreds of people on a daily basis. The international community must act now to stop the regime's brutality and provide the Free Syrian Army with the means to defend the Syrian people."
Additionally, a spokesman of the Coalition for a Democratic Syria, Radwan Ziadeh, released the following statement: "While the brutal and delusional Syrian regime continues to pay lip service to diplomacy, its actions over the past 18 months have demonstrated beyond any doubt that they have no interest in meaningful reform or dialogue." According to the Local Coordination Committees, more than 164 people were killed in Syria on Monday alone. The total number of those killed since the beginning of the revolution has exceeded 28,000, according to estimates by the LCC.
