Dakota Livesay, “the radio voice of the Old West” who has won the coveted “National Day of the Cowboy, Cowboy Keeper Award,” and the “Spirit of the Old West Alive Award,” publishes an inspirational and motivational masterpiece in Living The Code. Livesay’s book anchors on three core values—faith, family, and freedom—and is essentially based on fundamental principles drawn from what legendary author Zane Gray termed as “the code of the West.”

In 2004, Livesay became intrigued with Zane’s “code.” He was interested in what America, and even the whole world, would be like if everyone tried to live by it. Hence, a noble mission was born: to translate its principles into modern-day parlance, rendering them more understandable, relevant and applicable. From all the sources he could gather, Livesay collated all principles, categorized, and then condensed them into seven practical points: 1) Respect yourself and others; 2) Accept responsibility for your life; 3) Be positive and cheerful; 4) Be a person of your word; 5) Go the distance; 6) Be fair in all your dealings; and 7) Be a good friend and neighbor.

Livesay believes that Living The Code could very well be one of the most important books people will ever read. This is because it is assembled from Livesay’s over 70 years worth of life experiences, including failures and successes, a lifetime of conversations with men and women of principle, theologians, historians, and educators, and the study of their writings. It is a book that, if taken seriously, will change people’s lives.

“My hope is that as you read this book, you will be inspired to live your life in accordance with the seven principles explained,” Livesay says. “By doing so, you won’t become a saint overnight or probably ever attain the level of sainthood. But I can assure you that as you do your best each day, each day you will become a better man, woman, boy, or girl. And your example will inspire others to do the same, which, in turn, will make this world a better place for all of us to live.”
