IVCi Brings Unified Communications to the Conference Room

Users have lacked the ability to effortlessly bring the UC experience into a conference room.

IVCi, LLC (http://www.ivci.com), a leading integrator and service provider of unified communications (UC) solutions, announced today that it has broken through the barriers of unified communications solutions, extending them into the conference room.

The proliferation of unified communications solutions, such as Microsoft Lync, Cisco Jabber and IBM Sametime has extended collaboration to employees around the world. The challenge, however, has been moving the UC experience from the desktop into the conference room.

“UC solutions allow users to seamlessly collaborate with fellow employees, partners, and vendors, right from their desktops. Anything from screen sharing to video conferencing can be accomplished with the click of a button,” said Tim Hennen, IVCi’s senior vice president of audio visual integration. “However, users have lacked the ability to effortlessly bring the UC experience into a conference room.”

Up until now, users have had two options when meeting with both local colleagues and remote participants; each participant joins from their desktop (even if they are located in the same facility), or the local group gathers around someone’s desktop. The result of this “huddle” is poor audio and video quality, as well as a limited view of all participants involved.

Today, IVCi is unveiling two new solutions: the UC Room and UC Mobile systems. Both systems are designed to deliver high levels of audio and video fidelity while allowing for the ease of use that customers expect from UC clients.

The UC Room is a configurable, PC-based solution that allows an organization to extend its UC client into a conference room setting. Customers can select from a variety of options for microphones, cameras, and furniture to develop a solution that best fits their needs.

Video is obtained either through a PC card located in the display, or from a local laptop connection that automatically switches when engaged. Power management capabilities turn the display on when a laptop is connected or the mouse is moved, and off after a set period of inactivity.

The UC Mobile is a cart-based solution that allows users to easily move the system into any room, transforming that environment into a video conferencing room. Participants simply connect their laptops to the system and launch the desktop video application of their choice. The video conference is then displayed on the screen while a camera and microphone send audio and video to far-end parties. Plus, with easy content display options, UC Group systems can double as presentation rooms when video is not in use.

In addition to support for popular unified communications clients, both UC systems are fully compatible with desktop video solutions from Polycom and Cisco, as well as consumer video solutions such as Skype and Google Video Chat.
