Educators are invited to jump start the school year with a dose of inspiration at The Henry Ford’s Educator Open House on October 6. Along with a guest, educators interested in learning about The Henry Ford’s vast educational resources can receive free admission to Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Ford Rouge Factory Tour and IMAX Theatre.*

Opening at 8:30 am, educators will be provided information on the unique and engaging opportunities ahead for the 2012-2013 school year during educator overview sessions with our Chief Learning Officer Paula Gangopadhyay. Attendees will learn about the 2012 Teacher Innovator Awards developed through our partnership with PBS LearningMedia ™, the new Building Stories creative writing contest for students and get a chance to win a free field trip for their class.

While exploring The Henry Ford, teachers can experience the many varied learning opportunities available for their students, from such curriculum-aligned exhibits as “With Liberty and Justice for All” and “Heroes of the Sky,” to operating the same complex tools used on the F-150 assembly line at the Ford Rouge Factory Tour. Educational films on Michigan’s largest IMAX screen are available for viewing inside the IMAX Theatre throughout the day and historical figures such as Thomas Edison and the Wright brothers come to life in dramatic presentations throughout Greenfield Village.

Educators interested in the IMAX film experience for their students can learn more about the customized experience The Henry Ford has to offer through the new Teacher’s Choice @ IMAX program. Youth group leaders, teachers and educators can choose an educational film during two morning show-times for the ultimate IMAX field trip beginning now through December 13.

As a special treat, complimentary coffee and bagels from The Henry Ford and Meijer will be provided, and educators can browse the Fall Farmer’s Market in Greenfield Village, one of The Henry Ford’s many programs that celebrate local and historic food. Activities run until 5 p.m. Educators interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register online as space for the event is limited. In the past more than 800 educators have attended the event.
