Following an article published on kulr8.com regarding the Young Marines program, obstacle race Spartan Race responds by discussing Luke Sliwinski, a Young Marine who attended the Super Spartan Mid-Atlantic.

On October 2nd, obstacle race Spartan Race responded to an article published for kulr8.com concerning a Young Marines orientation ceremony that occurred at the Billings Armory in Montana.

According to the article, The Young Marines is a group that used a modified boot camp approach to keep boys and girls between the ages eight and eighteen active and valuable to the community. The article states, “Leaders said the group is associated with the Marine Corps League, not the US Marines. It's not a recruiting tool for the military, as many people assume.” According to the article, Young Marines leader Ziggy Flansburg reports that the program is a volunteer group that teaches adolescences how to be active in their community.

Spartan Race had the honor of having Young Marine Luke Sliwinski attend the Super Spartan Mid-Atlantic where he powered through the various obstacles alongside the Team X-T.R.E.M.E. crew. According to Spartan Race representative Carrie Adams, the eleven year old Young Marine is proud of his time spent in the program and currently holds the rank of Sergeant. Adams reports that Sliwinski was the youngest attendee at the Virginia Super Spartan on August 25th. Adams states, “He toiled with the team for the 5.5 hours it took to complete finishing every obstacle and taking every step of the 10.5 miles course.” Luke was introduced to Team X-T.R.E.M.E. after meeting USMC Cpl. Todd Love while visiting wounded veterans, an act he has been doing for the past seven years. Adams states, “He’s been raising money for them – nearly $10,000 worth.” Spartan Race praises Luke’s incredible and inspiring efforts.

Adams reports that by attending the Super Spartan Mid-Atlantic, Luke is hopeful to draw attention to Operation Ward 57, an organization that supports wounded soldiers. The article states, “Team X-T.R.E.M.E. member Todd Love says of Luke, ‘Luke has been with me since the beginning of my recovery. He is one of heroes, and we stay in touch with each other. I see him as a little brother but he [is] full of what this country needs more of.’”
